Shaun of the Dead gets a pop-up at the Winchester Tavern

Sometimes in a zombie apocalypse you need a plan. A plan like, “Take the car. Go to Mom. Kill Phil. Grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold beer, and wait for everything to calm down.”

2024 is the 20th anniversary of the publication of Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead. Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the film helped reinvigorate the zombie genre by incorporating a healthy dose of romance and comedy. It then spawned two spiritual sequels (Hot Fuzz, The End of the World) and launched the careers of everyone involved. It’s a big movie, a big anniversary, and to celebrate, Focus has brought the film back to one of the places where it premiered, San Diego Comic-Con.

io9 was invited to visit a recreation of the Winchester Tavern, Shaun and Ed’s favorite hangout, at Comic-Con and found a room full of Easter eggs. Shaun’s flowers are in the trash. Chairs are stacked against the windows. There’s a zombie in the jukebox. It’s a very cool room that is actually an elaborate shop that sells special Shaun Shirts, pins and, most importantly, a special beer from Beer Zombies Brewing Company. You couldn’t drink it in the bar because there was no liquor license, but it was still cool.

Here are some pictures from inside the Winchester at Comic-Con 2024.

Online reservations for the experience are closed, but walk-ins are accepted. If you’re at Comic-Con, head to 520 Fifth Avenue or visit this link for more information.

And the film itself will be back in theaters on AMC from August 29th to September 5th. Find out more information here!
