GBI arrests North Carolina man in child abuse investigation

Donathan Shelton, 32, of Sylva, North Carolina, was charged with two counts of child abuse and two counts of sexual abuse.

TOWNS COUNTY, Georgia – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged a North Carolina man with child molestation and sexual abuse.

Donathan Shelton, 32, of Sylva, North Carolina, was charged with two counts of child abuse and two counts of sexual abuse.

On April 29, 2022, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia requested the GBI’s assistance in its child abuse investigation, according to a press release.

Shelton was arrested in North Carolina on charges related to a case in Jackson County, North Carolina. He was indicted by a Towns County grand jury on October 24, 2022. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

After Shelton was released from prison in North Carolina, he was extradited to Georgia and booked into the Towns County Detention Center on July 18.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
