Prosecutor: New Jersey teacher charged with sexual abuse of two students

A New Jersey high school teacher who resigned earlier this month after being accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her teenage students earlier this year has been charged again for allegedly having a sexual relationship with another student in 2017, authorities said.

On Wednesday, July 17, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced that 36-year-old Julie Rizzitello of Brick Township was charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree witness tampering for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students.

The alleged sexual relationship between the former Wall High School English teacher and the student began in 2017, the statement said.

“On multiple occasions in Brick Township, Rizzitello allegedly performed various sexual acts with the second victim,” the statement said.

The new charges come just over two weeks after Rizzitello was arrested on July 3 and charged with two counts of sexual assault, witness tampering and three counts of sexual abuse. He is accused of having a sexual relationship with another student since the beginning of the year, Monmouth District Attorney Raymond S. Santiago and Wall Township Police Chief Sean O’Halloran announced on July 4.

Rizzitello “allegedly engaged in various sexual acts with the victim” on multiple occasions and in at least three jurisdictions – Belmar, Brick and Wall – the investigation revealed, the statement said.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by NJ.com, Rizzitello and the 18-year-old student allegedly had multiple sexual encounters between April and June 14.

According to the affidavit, the two allegedly had a sexual encounter in his car in Brick on May 14.

According to a report by NJ.com, she allegedly sent him nude photos, authorities said.

The two exchanged “numerous messages” of a sexual nature, the affidavit states.

According to the online site Honeyfund.com, Rizzitello married Joseph Rizzitello on June 30, 2017. It is unclear if they are still married.

According to public pension records, Rizzitello began working for Wall Township Public Schools in 2013, NJ.com reports.

She resigned shortly before her arrest on July 3, according to the prosecutor’s statement.

She remains incarcerated at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing on July 23 in Monmouth County Superior Court.

Her attorney and Wall Township Public Schools did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
