Thieves hit four Tesla Supercharger stations in the Houston area this week

HOUSTON – On Monday, KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding reported the theft of 18 cables from a Tesla charging station in Montrose.

Since its report, more charging stations in the Houston area have been vandalized, leaving electric vehicle owners without a spark.

On Wednesday, the cables from all the charging stations at Glenbrook Square shopping center were stolen. Every connector in the batch had been cut.

Then last night, more charging stations were cut off in northwest Harris County. One of them was located at 10850 Louetta Road.

In the Louetta burglary, a source tells KPRC 2 a man, wearing a black hoodie and black pants, was seen cutting the charger cables at the station, before crossing the street and getting into a black sedan.

It is not clear whether the crimes are committed by the same perpetrators.

Nathaniel French has owned a Tesla for almost six years. As a longtime fan of electric vehicles and someone who commutes from Austin for work, he’s no stranger to charging stations.

He visited a station that had been hit when he needed a charge, only to be shocked by the embarrassing revelation.

“It’s unfortunate,” French said. “People don’t realize how much it affects you. It’s a bit like going to get gas and not being able to get any for your cars. It’s a struggle, and it’s frustrating to say the least.
