NANTUCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — Federal authorities have ordered the closure of Vineyard Wind after floating debris and sharp pieces of fiberglass were found in the water, according to a report from WCVB.

The harbormaster of Nantucket had announced that swimming was prohibited on all beaches on the south coast.

According to a report from WCVB, Vineyard Wind has deployed teams to search Nantucket’s southern beaches for debris that washed ashore after one of the blades of an offshore wind turbine was damaged.

“No injuries have been reported, but operations are suspended until further notice. BSEE is coordinating with the United States Coast Guard and state agencies to ensure information sharing,” the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said.

According to WCVB, BSSE and Vineyard Wind will work together on the next steps.
