‘Dangerous’ Crawley man raped and molested woman for a decade

Wojciech Burylo, 39, called his victim, a 40-year-old woman, over 40 times a day and threatened her with extreme violence, including beheading.

He controlled large parts of her life and regularly threatened her with death if she did not comply with his wishes, Sussex Police said.

The woman reported Burylo, of Calvin Walk in Bewbush, Crawley, for these offences in January 2024. He was subsequently arrested and released on bail with strict conditions.

He was also served with a domestic violence protection order prohibiting him from causing further harm to the woman.

Less than an hour after leaving custody, Burylo called the woman from a stranger’s phone and sent her a message.

He was arrested again and taken into custody, where he continued to send letters to the woman.

Burylo has now been found guilty by Lewes Crown Court of three counts of rape, three counts of threatening to kill and one count of assault.

He will appear before a yet-to-be-determined court on December 12 for sentencing.

Detective Inspector Darren Taylor said: “Wojciech Burylo is a controlling, dangerous man who subjected the victim in this investigation to years of physical and emotional abuse.

“I cannot thank her enough for her courage to break out of this vicious cycle of control and report his crimes to us.

“She helped bring a terrible human being to justice and as we await sentencing, I hope she can look to the future with optimism and be safe from further harm at the hands of Burylo.

“If you are a victim of violent, controlling or sexually abusive behaviour, please report it to us online or on 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency. We will do everything we can to get you justice.”
