Altoona man arrested for aggressive driving in Spring Twp. | Berks Regional News

SPRING TWP., Pennsylvania – Spring Township Police are investigating a road rage incident involving a firearm.

On June 20, police were dispatched to the Olive Garden in the 1700 block of Crossings Blvd. for a report of a man with a firearm.

Upon arrival, police learned that the incident had previously begun at the intersection of N. Meridian Blvd. and Broadcasting Square Drive.

The victims told police that they were turning at a traffic light when a pickup truck nearly got in their way and nearly hit them.

As they yelled and honked at the driver of the pickup truck, 43-year-old Michael Hench of Altoona, the victims say he pointed a gun at them from his pickup truck and followed closely behind them.

Hench allegedly put down the weapon and continued to pursue the victims while making threatening hand gestures in the shape of a firearm.

The two vehicles eventually drove into the Olive Garden parking lot, where Hench allegedly told a victim, “You’re going to die” and “You’re going to be killed.”

The victims called police and Hench was gone before they arrived. According to court documents, he ran over the victim’s foot as he fled.

A short time later, police in South Heidelberg Township contacted Hench.

He reportedly told them that he was the man involved in the incident, but that the victims were yelling at him and throwing objects at his truck.

He said his gun – for which police say he has a valid concealed carry permit – was placed on the dashboard during the incident but was never pointed at anyone.

Hench is accused of terrorist threats, simple assault, harassment and related offenses.

He is free on unsecured bail of $5,000.
