Police: Arrest made in connection with “road rage” killing in Taneytown

A suspect was arrested in connection with a “road rage” incident that occurred in Taneytown on July 4 and left one dead and three injured, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday evening.

Davon Joseph Dabbs, 20, was charged Thursday with the premeditated murder of 36-year-old Christopher Patrick Moore II and four counts of assault, according to a Facebook post from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

The road rage argument began between a pickup truck and a sedan on Route 140, and the vehicles followed each other to the intersection with Bear Run Road, police said, where Dabbs exited one vehicle with a 26-year-old passenger and Moore exited a second vehicle. Moore’s 33-year-old fiancée also arrived at the argument in a third vehicle and announced that she had a handgun that she legally owned and carried, police said.

A physical altercation ensued over possession of the gun, during which Dabbs was shot in the left leg and the gun came into his possession. According to police, during the altercation, Dabbs punched Moore’s fiancée in the face several times and fired several shots from the gun, hitting a passenger in the hand and Moore.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 10 p.m., where they found multiple gunshot victims. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene and his fiancée was taken to a local hospital with a broken jaw and facial injuries. Dabbs and the passenger in his vehicle were also taken to a regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The other occupants of the vehicle, including an 18-month-old child who was taken to hospital as a precaution, were not injured.
