Fox in Winston-Salem tests positive for rabies after attacking two people near Old Salem

SEIZED ON THE SAME PROPERTY. TONIGHT IN FORSYTH COUNTY, HEALTH LEADERS SAY A FOX ATTACKED TWO PEOPLE NEAR A RECREATION CENTER. KARA PETERS IS WITH US LIVE TONIGHT TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE TESTS ARE NOW SHOWING. KARA IS HERE AFTER TWO DOGS WERE FOUND DEAD. YES. DEVANTE LEADERS FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IN FORSYTH COUNTY SAY THE FOX HAD RABIES. OFFICIALS SAY THE FOX ATTACKED TWO PEOPLE ON JUNE 27. THE VICTIMS’ AGES ARE STILL UNCLEAR. NOW, OFFICIALS SAY THE ATTACK TOOK PLACE IN THE OLD SALEM COMMUNITY AND NEAR THE SIMS RECREATION CENTER HERE IN WINSTON-SALEM. AND WE HAVE TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY SEE ANIMALS ALL THE TIME BUT ARE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT THE FOX ATTACK. TRENT HANCOCK, GM OF LOT 63 IN OLD SALEM, SAYS THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH INFORMED HIS COMPANY OF THE ATTACK TODAY. HANCOCK SAYS FORTUNE, HE AND HIS EMPLOYEES ARE FINE. I HAVE WARNED MY STAFF TO LOOK OUT FOR MORE ANIMALS AND IF ONE IS A LITTLE TOO EAGER TO COME INTO THE STORE WE WILL SCARE IT AWAY. AND COUNTY LEADERS ARE ASKING ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN A FOX IN THIS AREA BETWEEN JUNE 20TH AND 27TH TO CONTACT THEIR DOCTOR AND FORSYTH COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES. WE WILL HAVE MORE ON IT AT SIX.
