20-year-old arrested after fatal shooting in Virginia Beach: Police

Brian James II was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – A 20-year-old man was arrested after a shooting at the Atlantis apartment complex in Virginia Beach left another man dead, police said.

According to Virginia Beach police, Brian James II was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of June 29. The call came just after 3 a.m.

Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Jesus Alfredo Jeronimo Can, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

According to police, investigators identified James as a suspect less than 24 hours after the shooting. He was arrested at 9 p.m. on June 29.
