Raped by father and uncle, Telangana youth aspire to join police

Hyderabad: Two minor rape victims in Telangana have shown remarkable courage and determination in the face of severe trauma and recently cleared the Class 10 exam with flying colors, the results of which were announced in the state recently.

The journey of a younger girl (15 years old) is extremely shocking as she was raped by her own father in 2023.

This was discovered when her grandmother took her to a hospital when she complained of stomach pain, where doctors discovered she was pregnant.

What made matters worse was that her pregnancy could not be terminated because it was in an advanced stage. She gave birth to a baby in the ninth month, M Mahender Reddy, a police officer who handled both cases, told PTI recently.

The baby was sent to an orphanage and the girl continued her education, he added. Despite these difficulties, she passed the Class X standard examination with a GPA of 5.6.

The father was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court, which also awarded compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the girl, Reddy said.

The other girl (16 years old) was raped by her uncle, Reddy said. She scored an impressive grade point average of 9.3 in the Class X standard exams.

In view of her uncle’s heinous crime, the girl’s relatives stayed away from the family.

However, they congratulated her on her success in the X standard exam, he said.

Interestingly, both girls now aspire to become police officers as their fear of police has disappeared after Meerpet police station helped them get justice.

Reddy, who was previously posted as SHO of Meerpet police station, said that the constables and other police officers handled the case with a humane approach.

Apart from helping the victims, Reddy said, the police officers went beyond their duty and tried to instill courage in them without limiting themselves to the case requirements.

Police personnel also encouraged them to continue their training, he added.
