Legendary news reporter said to be behind investigation into Matthew Perry’s death

It has been almost a year since the death of Friends Star Matthew Perry rocked the entertainment industry and shocked fans around the world. On the evening of October 28, 2023, Mr. Perry was found unconscious in his hot tub by his assistant. The assistant immediately called 9-1-1 and reported that the actor had suffered a “cardiac incident.” Emergency responders responded within minutes but were unable to resuscitate Mr. Perry and he was pronounced dead.

Almost two months after Mr Perry’s shocking death, the coroner found that the Mr Sunshine Star had died from the “acute effects” of ketamine. Ketamine is a powerful anesthetic with hallucinogenic properties. Mr Perry had undergone intensive ketamine therapy. However, the amount found in his system suggested he had gotten his hands on the drug from someone other than his doctor.

In addition to the ketamine, there were other factors that contributed to his death, including drowning, coronary heart disease, and the effects of buprenorphine (a drug used to treat opioid addiction). However, his death was ultimately ruled an accident.

Seven months after Perry’s death, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration announced they would launch a joint investigation into the circumstances of his death, focusing on how the actor and recovering addict came into possession of ketamine in the first place.

The announcement surprised some, but not all. We now know who was behind the investigation and who continued to push police to find out exactly what happened.

It is the legendary news anchor Keith Morrison.

Morrison has hosted the award-winning news programme for more than 30 years DatelineNBCBut Morrison is much more than just a talented journalist.

He is also the stepfather of Matthew Perry.

Mr Morrison married Perry’s mother Susan, a fellow news anchor, in 1981, when Perry was just 12 years old. Perry’s mother was also the former press secretary to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Morrison and Perry’s mother had four children together – Caitlin, Emily, Willy and Madeleine.

In contact has spoken to insiders throughout the investigation and has exclusively learned that Mr Morrison is the one behind the scenes demanding that police find out what happened to his beloved stepson.

“Keith has the contacts, the soft skills and decades of experience dealing with local and national law enforcement to make a real difference in the investigation into Matthew’s death,” a source tells In Touch exclusively. “Because Keith is involved, picking up the phone himself and calling people, the likelihood of there being real criminal consequences in this case has skyrocketed, and Matthew’s entire family relies on Keith’s expertise as an investigator and, more importantly, as someone who can communicate with authorities in a trusting and respectful manner.”

According to a source close to the family, Morrison and his stepson have become very close over the years. The source added that Morrison loved Perry like a son and “did not want his death to be in vain.”

Last week, it was revealed that investigators spoke with Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, about Perry’s death. Mueller and Perry met in rehab and reportedly dated for a while. Police confiscated Mueller’s iPhone and computer. They also said Ms. Mueller was cooperative.

Just recently, Los Angeles police announced that Mr. Perry apparently received the final, fatal dose of ketamine through the United States Postal Service. He is said to have ordered the drug from a dealer he met online and had it shipped to him.

No arrests have been made yet, but police believe that charges will be brought against several people.
