Des Moines police have arrested and charged 52-year-old Robert Gonzales with kidnapping and burglary. Police responded to a report of a kidnapping in the Easter Lake Area neighborhood late Wednesday night. Officers found a 73-year-old woman who said a man forcibly entered her home, held her down and drove her through the Des Moines metro while forcing her to withdraw cash from ATMs. Police say the suspect then took the woman home and stole her vehicle. Police say the woman was not injured. Her car was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot on Southeast 14th Street. Evidence shows Gonzales knew the victim, as he had repaired an appliance in her home months ago. Des Moines police have arrested 52-year-old Robert Gonzales and charged him with kidnapping and burglary.

Police responded to a report of a kidnapping in the Easter Lake area late Wednesday night. Officers found a 73-year-old woman who said a man forcibly entered her home, held her down and drove her through the Des Moines metro while forcing her to withdraw cash from ATMs. Police say the suspect then took the woman home and stole her car.

Police say the woman was not injured. Her car was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot on Southeast 14th Street.

There is evidence that Gonzales knew the victim because he had repaired an appliance in her home months ago.

Police found him Friday night at a home in the 200 block of East 9th Street in Ames after receiving tips from the public.
