Two dead in suspected murder-suicide in St. Pete apartment complex, police say

According to police, two people were killed in an apartment complex in St. Petersburg on Friday afternoon following an alleged murder followed by suicide.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police were called to the Parklane Condominiums, 334 48th Ave. N., for a welfare check, police said in a news release. When officers arrived, they found two people – a man and a woman, both middle-aged – dead in one of the apartments, police spokesman Ken Knight said.

“The investigation is still in its early stages, but this appears to be a murder-suicide,” Knight said, adding that a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate the man is the shooter, Knight said, but he would not specify the relationship between the two people until their next of kin could be notified.

Detectives from the police’s serious crimes division are investigating. Further information was not immediately available.
