Woman found dead in box in East Flatbush

FLATBUSH — Police found a gruesome sight in East Flatbush on Friday. NBC News reports: When police responded to a 911 call from a social worker at a Linden Avenue apartment shortly after noon, they discovered the body of resident Shirley Awer, 67, stuffed into a box with visible head injuries. paramedic pronounced her dead shortly thereafter. Law enforcement sources told NBC that Awer’s son, David Drummond, 30, hit Awer in the head and face before placing her body in the box. According to the New York Post, he allegedly suffers from schizophrenia and was arrested for murder after allegedly confessing to the crime.

“I’m in shock. This is scary. I mean, the way she was murdered, if what they’re saying is true. I feel for the family,” neighbor Denise Ingram told NBC.
