DRW security incident may have exposed health information

WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced Friday that one of its partners, Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW), experienced a “security incident” that may have exposed protected health information of 19,150 Wisconsin residents who receive Medicaid.

DHS said the security incident was discovered after there was “suspicious activity” on a DRW email account. The two organizations are investigating the incident.

DRW is notifying Wisconsin Medicaid members – whose information may have been accessible during this incident – of the situation by mail. They will have access to a call center that will answer their questions about the incident. Wisconsin residents who received a notification letter and those with questions about the security incident can call 888-733-3814 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning June 24.

Those affected are offered free credit monitoring for one year.
