Woman of Indian descent killed, others injured after shooting in the USA

New York: A woman of Indian descent was killed and another seriously injured when they were shot in the US state of New Jersey. According to authorities, the man was a 19-year-old man of Indian descent.

The shooting occurred on June 12 in northeast Middlesex County, the district attorney said in a press release.

Responding to the report of the shooting, officers found two female victims with gunshot wounds and airlifted them to the hospital in critical condition.

Jasvir Kaur, 29, of Carteret, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other victim, a 20-year-old woman, was in critical condition, they said.

The other victim was Kaur’s cousin, according to CBS News.

“They were just lying on the driveway. They didn’t really move,” a neighbor was quoted as saying in the report.

Later in the day, police arrested one Gaurav Gill in connection with the shooting.

He was on the run for hours and was cornered by police in a backyard about half a mile from the scene of the shooting, the report said.

Gill, a Kent resident, was charged with “one count of premeditated murder, two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of second-degree intentional possession of a weapon, one count of fourth-degree intentional possession of a high-capacity magazine and one count of first-degree intentional attempted murder,” the news release said last week.

Gurmukh Singh, the owner of the house where the two women lived together, described Kaur as a hardworking and kind person, the report said.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known and it was unclear whether and how the suspect knew the victims, it said.

Police said the investigation was “active and ongoing” and urged anyone with information to call and contact authorities.
