Arrest after woman falls unconscious in street fight at LAX airport

Los Angeles police arrested a man on Friday in connection with a road rage brawl at Los Angeles International Airport in which an elderly woman was thrown to the ground and knocked unconscious.

Jasan Givens Sr. was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. in the Chesterfield Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles by members of an LAPD and airport police task force.

According to online records, he was booked into the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Division Jail on assault charges and his bail was set at $50,000. Givens is scheduled to make his first court appearance on July 12.

According to preliminary police investigations, Givens, 38, and another man got into a heated argument before their fight on May 31. The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m.

Surveillance video shows a man police say is Givens chasing a shirtless man on the sidewalk before continuing onto the street in front of the baggage claim area, where an elderly woman was standing while her luggage was being unloaded from her vehicle.

Givens and the other man then ram the woman just as Givens attacks the other man from behind, the video shows. The woman was knocked face down to the ground.

The two men are then seen wrestling on the ground behind the vehicle while the woman lies motionless next to them and others come in to check on her.

The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital in critical condition, police said. She has since been released. No further details about the extent of her injuries were available.

While Givens fled the scene, KTLA-TV Channel 5 reported The other man involved in the fight was arrested, according to police.

“The most shocking thing is that both individuals did not render aid after the incident,” LAPD Detective Scott Danielson told the station. “Our victim here could be your mother or your grandmother.”
