YES Prep volleyball coach Osvaldo Flores charged with sexual harassment of Southwest Secondary School students, records show

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – A volleyball coach at YES Prep is no longer working at the school after he admitted to sexually harassing female students, according to indictment.

According to the records, Osvaldo Flores is charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child, inappropriate behavior with a student and sexual conduct with a child.

The 23-year-old has been held since Friday on bail totaling $315,000.

Flores’ bail conditions include staying 1,000 feet away from areas where children are present and having no contact with anyone 17 years of age or younger.

Charging documents indicate that the sexual assault allegations relate to separate incidents involving two teenagers who attended Southwest Secondary School, where Flores worked as a volleyball coach.

The victims were 15 and 17 years old at the time of the attacks.

According to charging documents, the 15-year-old’s mother reported the original incident in October 2023 after noticing her daughter leaving in the middle of the night.

The parents managed to track the girl’s cellphone and found her in Flores’ back seat. This sparked a police investigation and led to a 17-year-old victim.

The 15-year-old told her school principal that Flores texted her, “I know this is wrong, but you’re really pretty,” after she posted a picture of herself on Instagram.

She said Flores was aware of her age because he went to her 15th birthday party earlier this year.

In her outcry to the school principal, the 17-year-old said she repeatedly told Flores “no” during violent incidents, records show.

Flores is said to have followed the 17-year-old into a storage closet on campus more than once and “touched, fondled and groped” her.

The student said this happened at the beginning of the volleyball season when she stayed late after games or practice.

According to the documents, Flores sent the 17-year-old inappropriate messages that were ignored.

Flores is said to have sent text messages in a group chat with his teammates asking for new song suggestions and sending the 17-year-old messages like: “You looked cute today.”

When investigators and teachers confronted Flores, he admitted to the sexual assault in the school gym, according to court documents.

Court documents show he claimed he knew the student was a senior and assumed all seniors were either 18 or 19 years old.

The charter school said Flores was a seasonal worker from August 2022 to December 2022 and again in August 2023 until his employment ended in October 2023.

YES Prep sent Eyewitness News the following statement:
