When will Cleveland City Hall reopen after the “cyber incident”?

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Cleveland officials plan to reopen City Hall and Erieview Plaza on Wednesday, June 12. However, according to a social media post, city offices will open a little later than usual that day, at 11 a.m.

The offices remained closed for two days following what authorities called a “cyber incident,” which prompted them to block network access to city systems as a precautionary measure.

Since then, authorities have said little about the nature of the incident, stressing the importance of withholding details that could jeopardize the city’s investigation.

The City of Cleveland is currently investigating a cyber incident. The City has identified anomalies in its IT environment. At this time, the City took precautionary measures to contain these anomalies. Since then, we have been investigating the nature and scope of the incident. We will be able to determine the duration of this event as more information becomes available as the investigation progresses.

These “anomalies” were first discovered Saturday, the FOX 8 I-Team reported.

The incident did not affect emergency services such as police, fire and rescue services or port control. Basic city services such as utilities continued to operate, but with limited computer capacity, Mayor Justin Bibb said Monday. Cleveland’s municipal courts were also unaffected.

Garbage collection, lawn mowing and recreational programs are expected to continue as scheduled, Tuesday’s post said. Residents who wish to meet with a City Hall or Erieview employee should contact them to arrange a meeting point.

The city’s non-emergency number for city services and inquiries, 311, is also available. Residents can also continue to pay their utilities online.

Although Bibb called the incident a “breach” in his remarks Monday, he said that “certain city data is not currently affected,” including taxpayer information held by the Central Collection Agency’s Tax Division and city utility customer information.
