In broad daylight, police are searching for a man suspected of attacking two people in the Montrose neighborhood

HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for a person they believe attacked two men in the Montrose area in April. Although a sketch of one attack and a photo of another attack have been released, no arrests have been made.

Greg Audel, 57, was attacked at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 6. Audel was walking his dog near the intersection of Waugh and W. Pierce.

“I saw the guy across the street and there was something about him, I don’t know what it was, I just remembered it and then he crossed the street as I was approaching the corner and we ended up approaching the corner at the same time and he was right next to me, which was weird,” Audel said. “But then I turned right and he kept going in that direction, I thought, and all of a sudden I was about half a block away and he was right next to me and just said, ‘Do you want to get beat up today?'”

Audel said the man suddenly punched him and threw him to the ground. Audel said he was able to hit the man with his stick and ran over Waugh before he was attacked by the man.

“I’ll be honest, I prayed and thought, ‘You can’t separate me from the people I love and who love me. This is not how it’s going to end,'” Audel said.

Several passersby, including Angela Markides, rushed to Audel’s side.

“I was able to stop the vehicle, get out and ask, ‘Are you OK?’ And he says, ‘No, I was attacked,'” Markides said.

Markides said she was visiting her daughter and saw Audel walking his dog shortly before the attack. She said she saw the attacker run away but couldn’t make out his face clearly. Audel credits Markides and several others who came to his aid for preventing the attack.

Audel suffered a concussion and several bruises and cuts, but was able to help police create a sketch of his attacker. Audel said he has no idea why he was attacked. However, he did learn that a week later, a 77-year-old man was attacked in W. Gray. In that case, police were able to create a photograph of the attacker.

Audeal saw the photo and said he was sure it was the same man who attacked him.

“I’m going to find him because I deserve a peaceful walk. He doesn’t deserve to terrorize me,” Audel said.
