Suspension of Amtrak ADK line extended until September

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – The reservation system for booking tickets on the Amtrak Adirondack Line from Saratoga Springs to Montreal has been suspended until early September. The line was closed for 40 miles of track repairs and Amtrak planned to reopen the line in late June.

Repairs in Canada were originally scheduled to take six weeks. New York State is paying for the track repairs, and the Empire State Passenger Association (ESPA) drew attention to the extended closure, saying the state Department of Transportation and Amtrak owe the public an explanation for the delay.

ESPA CEO Steve Strauss said Amtrak and DOT should make the repair costs public. “It is astonishing that an ongoing dispute between Amtrak and Canadian National Railway over the maintenance of less than 40 miles of track in Canada
may disrupt international travel between the United States and Canada, and
“An important transportation option for New Yorkers in the upstate region is being blocked,” he said.

Amtrak representative Jason Abrams told NEWS10 that the Adirondack service changes would be extended through Sunday, September 8, and apologized for any inconvenience to customers.
