Man suspected of murdering Huntington Beach nurse arrested.

Huntington Beach Police Detectives have arrested a 35-year-old Diamond Bar man for his alleged involvement in the May 31 murder of a traveling nurse who was found dead in a residence.

Christopher Mendez, 35, was arrested Friday at an unknown location near the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a Huntington Beach police news release issued Monday.

According to police, investigators worked with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the State Department’s Office of Diplomatic Security and the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana to locate Mendez. He was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Friday as he attempted to re-enter the U.S. from Mexico.

Mendez was identified Wednesday as one of the people connected to the death of 35-year-old Nicole Karin Marquises of Walnut. The two were reportedly in a relationship, investigators said.

Officers initially responded to a call received around 2:30 p.m. on May 31 regarding a possible suspicious death at a residence in the 1100 block of England Street in Huntington Beach. There, they discovered Marquisee’s body and immediately began an investigation to find a possible suspect.

Mendez had been in custody since Monday and was being held on $2 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released at this time. More information on the initial press release and update can be found online at Welcome to Huntington Beach, CA.
