State Police: Speeding suspected in Lafourche Parish accident with three deaths

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 308 near McCloud Drive.

LAFOURCHE PARISH, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed three people in Lafourche Parish Saturday morning. The crash was caused by speeding drivers.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 308 near McCloud Drive.

The crash killed 55-year-old Ethelwaldo Dejesus of Metairie, 30-year-old Braysi Pineda Zuniga of Kenner and 49-year-old Page Abadie of Galliano.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that Dejesus was driving a 2018 Honda Accord southbound on LA Highway 308 at a high rate of speed on a right-hand curve. At the same time, a 2022 Honda Pilot was traveling northbound on LA Highway 308. For reasons still under investigation, the Accord crossed the center line and struck the Pilot head-on,” said a state police report released Sunday.

“Dejesus and his passenger, Pineda Zuniga, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The pilot’s driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to an out-of-area hospital. Abadie, a passenger of the pilot, also suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. All occupants except Dejesus were properly restrained.”

According to the Louisiana State Police, officials have so far investigated ten fatal traffic accidents with a total of 12 fatalities in 2024.
