Congress leader: Congress condemns slapping incident, but criticises terrorism allegations | News from Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Congress leaders in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh condemned CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur’s alleged slap on BJP MP for Mandi constituency Kangana Ranaut, but said it was also irresponsible of the leader to call it a terrorist and extremist act. Former chief minister and Congress MP for Jalandhar constituency Charanjit Singh Channi said such incidents should not happen. “But there is no terrorism in Punjab and there is no need to defame Punjab,” he said, terming Kangana’s statement after the incident as an attempt to portray the state in a negative light. Gurdaspur MP and party leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa made similar comments, saying he does not support any acts of violence. However, he also advised the actor-turned-politician not to tarnish the image of Punjab and to speak with caution. Randhawa highlighted the sacrifices made by the people of Punjab for the freedom of the country and the lives lost by the Congress leaders during the time of terrorism. He said they would raise Kangana’s remarks in Parliament. Punjab Kisan Congress president Kiranjit Singh Sandhu called the CISF constable a “lioness” and demanded an apology from Ranaut for her remarks on extremism in Punjab. Sandhu said if she did not apologise, they would not allow the MP to proceed to Mandi after returning from Mohali. Sandhu also criticised the AAP government in Punjab for its silence on the matter. He said no video of the incident has been released yet either.
