One dead in accident east of Dell Rapids

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — One person was killed in a crash near Dell Rapids Thursday morning.

According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, one person died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Jasper Street and 482nd Avenue, 6 miles east of Dell Rapids.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the victim was a 35-year-old woman from Jasper, Minnesota. The names of the drivers involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

According to authorities, the 19-year-old driver of a pickup truck ignored a stop sign and collided with a car, causing both vehicles to leave the intersection and come to rest in the southwest ditch.

The 19-year-old suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to authorities, charges are still pending.

The sheriff’s office said the South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct the ongoing accident investigation.
