1 person shot after police returned fire on Highway 101 in California.

Multiple police agencies in south Monterey County responded Monday night after a chase on northbound Highway 101 ended with an officer shooting a suspected armed suspect. The pursuit ended near the Soledad city limits. Official law enforcement sources told KSBW 8 it began with a robbery in King City. Greenfield police spotted a vehicle matching the description and began a chase on Highway 101. Greenfield police let King City police take over the pursuit once they caught up. A spike strip was then laid down on northbound Highway 101 near Soledad. The vehicle stopped before it could drive over it and a suspect got out of the car and began shooting at King City police, law enforcement officials told KSBW 8. Police sources told KSBW 8 that officers returned fire in response and at least one person was shot. A woman who was also in the suspected shooters’ car surrendered. No police officers were hit. KSBW 8 police sources say the shooting was not fatal. As of 10 p.m., northbound 101 south of Soledad remains closed. King City police told KSNBW 8 they could not comment on the investigation and that all questions should be directed to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
