2 people arrested after cleaners find 235 pounds of meth at Airbnb in Alhambra

ALHAMBRA, Calif. (KABC) – Two suspects were arrested after a cleanup crew found over 200 pounds of meth in an Airbnb in Alhambra.

The crew was cleaning the house in the 1400 block of Ethel Avenue on Sunday when they came across more than two dozen boxes filled with 235 pounds of bagged meth.

According to Alhambra police, the suspects were even filmed transporting the drugs in a U-Haul truck.

“It’s an Airbnb, you don’t know who’s going to come,” a neighbor told Eyewitness News. “You don’t know what they’re doing, what their plans are.”

Police said while officers were still at the scene, the suspects returned to the Airbnb in the U-Haul and attempted to flee.

(The suspects) quickly turned around, thinking they were going to get away,” police said. “Ultimately, the two suspects were arrested and booked into the APD jail on drug smuggling charges.”

Airbnb released a statement on the incident, saying: “The reported criminal activity has no place on Airbnb and we have removed a guest who made the booking from the platform while the investigation continues. Our team is working closely with the host to provide support and we stand ready to assist the Alhambra Police Department with their investigation.”

The incident remains under investigation.
