IDENTIFIED: Cyclist dead after collision with car in Fresno | YourCentralValley.com

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man who was struck and killed by a car while riding his bike in downtown Fresno on Sunday was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the cyclist on Monday as 54-year-old Gabriel Ortega of Fresno.


Police said they were called to Stanislaus Street and Van Ness Avenue at 1:15 p.m. Sunday after receiving several calls about a cyclist who had been hit by a car.

Upon arrival, emergency responders reported that Ortega was lying in the street with serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators, the driver involved remained at the scene of the accident and attempted to help Ortega while officers arrived.

According to investigators, drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in this collision.
