Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are expected to provide an update following the shooting that killed four officers in April

Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are expected to provide an update Friday evening after eight police officers were shot in April. Three members of the U.S. Marshals Service, including Officers Alden Elliot, Samuel Poloche and Thomas Weeks Jr., succumbed to their injuries. CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer also died during the shooting. The April 30 shooting occurred as the U.S. Marshals Task Force was serving an arrest warrant in the 5000 block of Galway Drive for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. ► Here’s what we know about the four officers who were shot in the line of duty. The officers were met with gunfire, who returned fire. The shooter, 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr., was shot in the front yard of the home. CMPD officials confirmed that the gunman, Hughes, who fired first, was the person the warrant was being executed against. Officials said he was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and escape (two counts) out of Lincoln County, North Carolina.CMPD officials also questioned two women who were in the home at the time of the shooting, but did not say if they will face charges. ►How the state’s law enforcement responded to the fatal shootingAfter the shooting, police officers said they found an AR-15 rifle and a pistol at the scene. They also found extra magazines for both weapons. Officials said there was heavy gunfire and 100 rounds were fired during the shooting.The CMPD officers who were injured were not members of the task force but were en route to the scene.CMPD said 12 of its officers fired their service weapons and were placed on leave, which is standard protocol.
