VDOT truck hit on I-64 in Newport News; 1 dead: VSP

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – One person was killed Wednesday afternoon when two vehicles collided on Interstate 64 in Newport News, Virginia State Police (VSP) said. One of the vehicles belongs to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the eastbound lanes at Exit 247 near the Lee Hall area.

According to VSP, a patrol car from the VDOT Safety Service was on its way to a broken-down vehicle at the exit when a Toyota Camry rear-ended it.

According to VSP, there was at least one fatality in the car. It is not known whether anyone else was injured. VSP did not provide any further information about the accident.
