22-year-old man shot in his car in northern Phoenix

PHOENIX – Phoenix police announced that a man was shot and killed in his car overnight in north Phoenix.

22-year-old Carlos Mercado Chavez was found dead on Tuesday morning.

At 8:00 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call to conduct a welfare check near 29th Street and Greenway Road.

A caller told police that she found her boyfriend dead in his vehicle with gunshot wounds.

According to authorities, homicide detectives immediately took over the investigation.

No suspects have been identified. No further information is available at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-(WITNESS) or 480-(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip. A reward will be offered for information leading to an arrest in this case.
