After a fire broke out in an apartment complex in Spokane Valley on Saturday afternoon, many residents had to leave their homes and a dog is dead.

According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), the fire started on the second floor of the Eagle Rock Apartments at 12423 East Mansfield Avenue. Firefighters immediately evacuated all residents and treated one person for smoke inhalation.

According to SVFD, two units were destroyed and a dog was found dead. It is unknown how many people have become homeless. SVFD is working with the Red Cross to provide temporary housing.

The SVFD has closed Mansfield from Pines to Houk. People are being asked to avoid the area as multiple crews are battling the fire.
