Buffalo man pleads guilty to murdering stepfather

A Buffalo man faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison after admitting to killing his stepfather, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Monday that Mohammed Mia, 41, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for beating 47-year-old Mohammed Hossain to death.

Around 8:30 a.m. on October 24, 2021, Mia entered his estranged wife’s home on Manhart Street in Buffalo and began slapping, hitting and choking her, prosecutors alleged. He attacked his wife’s parents when they tried to intervene. Mia punched and kicked her stepfather several times after knocking him to the ground.

Prosecutors said Mia fled in her vehicle and his wife called 911. Her father, who was unconscious when paramedics arrived, was taken with severe head trauma to Erie County Medical Center , where he died on October 27. were treated at ECMC for cuts and bruises to their face and body. The two surviving victims also suffered broken teeth.

Mia, who had violated a protection order, was arrested after going to the police station to report that he had been assaulted by his ex-wife and her in-laws.

A grand jury indicted Mia in November 2021 for the murder of her father-in-law and the attempted murder of his wife. Those charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal.

State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges scheduled Mia’s sentencing for June 26. Mia remains held without bail.
