Abner Uribe’s MLB suspension reduced from the first 6 games (report)

Flamethrower Abner Uribe of the Milwaukee Brewers has been suspended by Major League Baseball for six games for his involvement in a massive brawl that saw Jose Siri of the Tampa Bay Rays witness the benches being cleared. Uribe appealed the decision but was relegated to the minor leagues the day after the incident. A decision has reportedly been made on the number of games he will be suspended for.

After Abner Uribe was demoted to the minor leagues, he had to serve a MiLB suspension.

In July 2023, Abner Uribe was involved in an incident where benches were cleared in the minor leagues. The argument started between Cleveland Guardians rookie George Valera and Nashville Sounds catcher Alex Jackson, but Uribe was suspended after everyone cleared the benches. A few days after the suspension, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time in his career and had to serve that MiLB suspension after being demoted in April 2024.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy believes Abner Uribe’s suspension has been reduced to four games.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Todd Rosiak said Abner Uribe’s suspension was reduced to four games. His source was manager Pat Murphy. There has been no official announcement from MLB on this matter.

When will Abner Uribe be called back up to the major leagues?

Since his demotion, Abner Uribe has put up some good numbers in Triple-A. He has appeared in six games, pitched 7.1 innings, allowed just one earned run, and had seven strikeouts. The biggest caveat is that he also struck out six batters with walks. Aside from his maturity, a big reason for his demotion was his inability to throw strikes.

As mentioned by Rosiak, the Brewers will have to choose a time when it makes sense to lose a man in the bullpen if they bring Uribe back in. They have three of the four Thursdays in June off days. Otherwise, using him before and after the All-Star break in July could also be a viable option.
