Judge sentences New Haven man to 25 years in prison for raping two children under 10

NEW HAVEN, CT — Carlos Gomez is guilty of raping at least two children under the age of 10. He will be 90 when he is released. On Friday, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, suspended after 21 years. After his release, he will serve 10 years of probation.

The 69-year-old was found guilty by a jury in March on five counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of endangering a child.

According to New Haven District Attorney John P. Doyle Jr., the victims and their families were present and spoke at the sentencing hearing on Friday.

Doyle said evidence at trial showed that Gomez sexually abused the two young children between 2007 and 2012. The two cases were consolidated into one trial.

The cases were investigated by the New Haven Police Department. The District Attorney thanks the Department of Children and Families and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Abuse Clinic for their assistance. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Melissa R. Holmes and Deputy District Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with the assistance of Inspector Kevin Grenier.
