Suspect dead after standoff with police in East Alton

EAST ALTON, Ill. — A man is dead after a standoff between police and a suspect in a trailer on Lakeside Avenue. The situation began with a shooting call, and as police began investigating, they were shot at, leading to a shootout.

The suspect was later found dead inside the home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police chief told FOX 2 that despite the crash involving a patrol car, no officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say it was an isolated incident. They say there is no danger to the public.
