A high school teacher in Wyandotte was arrested for attempting to solicit a child, according to police

WYANDOTTE, Mich. — A teacher in Wyandotte was arrested on school grounds after attempting to solicit a child, police said.

Officials confirmed on Thursday, May 23, 2024, that a teacher in his late 30s was taken into custody at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte.

The arrest was made due to attempted recruitment of a child, police said. The “child” was a decoy so no one was sexually abused, officials said.

Police are asking any victims associated with this teacher to come forward.

The school is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Homeland Security is handling this case.

Here is a letter sent to the Wyandotte families:

Dear Wyandotte Public Schools Families,

Yesterday, May 21, 2024, Wyandotte Public Schools was made aware of allegations of misconduct by one of our employees at Roosevelt High School. The allegations do not involve any other employees or students. Immediate action was taken to remove the individual from the school system and we began discussions with local law enforcement regarding their investigation to determine what occurred.

At WPS, we have high expectations of our employees and expect them to meet the standards set out in our strict policies and protocols. If at any time there is concern that these expectations are not being met, the District will take immediate action to review the situation. If actions taken are found not to be consistent with our values ​​and code of conduct, those responsible will be held accountable. We take all allegations seriously.
