Teen arrested for bringing firearm onto campus

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Davidsen Middle School student for bringing a gun and ammunition onto campus.

On Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1 p.m., a school resource officer and principal at Davidsen Middle School were notified that Ethan Santana De Jesus, 14, had a firearm in his backpack.

A search of the student’s backpack revealed a 9mm Glock 45 pistol, a 24-round magazine and nine bullets (in the magazine).

The gun was determined to be stolen from a 2021 vehicle burglary case in the Brandon area.

“There is never an excuse to bring a gun to school. School is a place where children should feel safe and protected.” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “My message to this teenager is clear: you have made a serious mistake. We will hold you accountable. Luckily no one was injured, but this could have ended in tragedy if officers had not arrived in time.”
