“Not Dead Yet” is canceled by ABC after two seasons

ABC’s Not dead yet no longer lives up to its title.

The network canceled the comedy starring Gina Rodriguez after two seasons. Not dead yet drew the smallest audience of the three half-hour ABC comedies this season, averaging about 3.2 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings (excluding streaming).

The cancellation means ABC only has two comedies on its 2024-25 schedule for now – Abbott Elementary Schoolwhich is going into its fourth season, and The Conners, which ends with his seventh. The channel also has two comedy pilots starring Tim Allen (Changing gears) and Ty Burrell (Forgive forget), but likely won’t make decisions on either issue until after next week’s upfronts.

Created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, Not dead yet Rodriguez stars as Nell Serrano, who takes a job as an obituary writer after her life falls apart. Her new gig is complicated by the fact that she can see and hear the people she writes about, and they often have advice for her. Also starring are Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela Gibbs and Brad Garrett (who joined the series in the second season).

The 20th Television series is based on the novel by Alexandra Potter Confessions of a man in his mid-forties. Windsor and Johnson executive produced with Rodriguez, Dean Holland and McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh of Wonderland Sound and Vision.
