Man drives into Comal River while trying to flee police, New Braunfels officials say

According to police, he sped away and crashed into the Comal River on Landa Park Drive, leaving the rear of his vehicle stuck in the water.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – New Braunfels police say they have arrested a man who allegedly fell into the Comal River while fleeing from police.

The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday when police said they attempted to stop Jaime Humberto Cruz Rodriguez for speeding through Landa Park.

According to police, he sped away and crashed into the Comal River at Landa Park Drive, leaving the rear of his vehicle in the water. Officers had to wade through the water to pull Cruz Rodriguez from the driver’s seat.

He was taken to a hospital in New Braunfels, where he again attempted to escape, this time on foot, police said. He was quickly caught and taken to the Comal County Jail after his medical examination.

He is accused of drunk driving, evading arrest and escaping from custody.
