Rural Mitchell man charged in Wednesday shooting

A rural Mitchell man is behind bars after shots were fired in a residential area on the eastern edge of the community Wednesday morning.

Brandon Brown, 24, faces charges of attempted burglary, discharging a firearm within a city, using a firearm to commit a felony and making terroristic threats, as well as two misdemeanors.

Sheriff Mark Overman says a woman reported Brown knocking on her back door with a gun and when he couldn’t get in, several shots were fired. Officers said they found bullet holes in a nearby fence and a vehicle when they arrived at the scene on Partridge Drive.

At his first appearance Friday in Scotts Bluff District Court, Brown’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 9 and bail was set at $150,000 plus a 10 percent surety bond.
