1 dead in traffic accident that led to closure of US 285 in Park County

DENVER (KDVR) — US 285 in Park County was closed for several hours Friday morning due to a fatal accident.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook around 6 a.m. that US 285 from Antero Junction to Fairplay was closed in both directions while officials investigated the crash.


FOX31 contacted the Colorado State Patrol and learned that the accident was between two vehicles.

One person was killed in the accident, but CSP did not say if there were any other injuries. The cause of the accident is currently unknown, but is being investigated by police and sheriff’s deputies.

Nearly six hours later, the Colorado Department of Transportation said the highway was still closed and drivers were asked to prepare for delays or find an alternate route.

At around 9:30 a.m., the Park County Sheriff’s Office announced that the highway would remain closed for at least another two hours.
