In Westmoreland, criminals are under pressure in connection with sexual abuse and rape

The Westmoreland Division reported a 77 percent clearance rate for reported rape cases.

Of the 19 cases brought to their attention, 15 were solved. The accused were arrested and are now on trial.

In the remaining three cases, the suspects have been identified but have not yet been arrested.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dale Reid, who is responsible for the division’s crime prevention, attributes this higher clearance rate to the growing confidence of citizens in the police’s ability to investigate and solve these serious crimes.

“The dedication and professionalism of our officers has created a level of trust within the community. This trust is critical in encouraging victims to come forward, knowing that their cases will be handled with the utmost care and sensitivity,” said DSP Reid.

He further praised the efforts of the police team and stated: “I would like to thank our officers for their tireless pursuit of justice.

Their hard work and dedication have made a significant
Impact on the safety of our community. We urge more people to come forward and report these crimes.

Your courage helps us in our mission to make Westmoreland a safer place for all.”

Despite a slight increase in the number of reported cases, DSP Reid stresses that this increase is a sign of citizens’ trust in the police.

“The increase in reported cases should not be seen as an increase in crime, but rather as an expression of the trust that the community
in our ability to address these problems.

More and more victims are finding the courage to come forward, which is a positive step towards eradicating this heinous crime.”

DSP Reid sent a clear message to potential perpetrators: “We will not tolerate any form of sexual violence in our community.”

The Westmoreland Police Department is committed to pursuing justice with an unwavering determination. If you commit these crimes, we will find you, arrest you, and make sure you face the full force of the law.”

The police continue to encourage the public’s cooperation in reporting crimes and providing information that can contribute to the rapid resolution of cases.

The joint efforts of the police and the public are crucial to creating a safe environment for all residents.

This significant success in the Westmoreland Division underscores the importance of trust and community cooperation in the fight against crime.

“The police remain committed to maintaining this momentum and improving the safety and well-being of all citizens,” the high command said in a press release.
