Man arrested in connection with July 4 shooting in Fort Worth

A man was arrested Thursday in connection with one of two fatal shootings in Fort Worth on July 4.

Toderick Rogers, 21, was arrested by Fort Worth police on Thursday on a murder charge, according to online jail records. A Fort Worth police spokesman confirmed Rogers’ arrest was connected to one of the July 4 shootings.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting near the intersection of Castleman Street and Wiman Drive. According to a July 5 news release, police estimated that a crowd of 200 to 300 people had gathered along several blocks of Castleman Street to set off fireworks.

Two victims were found and taken to a hospital, where they died, police said. Two others were injured, police said in the news release. Online investigative records showed that 39-year-old Latasha Hymond of Fort Worth and 26-year-old Marcus Martin Jr. of San Diego, California, both died of gunshot wounds in the hospital emergency room.

Police said on July 5 that a “male victim” had died as a result of a medical emergency, but clarified on Sunday that bullet fragments had been found on the person.

Police said in the press release that they believe multiple suspects are responsible for the incident. A police spokesman did not say in an email on Sunday whether additional suspects were being sought, but said the investigation was ongoing.

Further information about Rogers’ role in the incident was not immediately available.
