Hagari confirms drone sent from Yemen and investigates incident – Defense News

IDF spokesman R. Adm. Daniel Hagari said Friday that the military and government would meet in the coming days to decide how to respond, both offensively and defensively, to the attack, which was almost certainly a Yemeni drone strike on Tel Aviv.

Hagari said Iran manufactured the Samad-3 drone used in the attack and guided the Yemeni Houthis in its procurement and use.

The IDF spokesman accused Tehran of being responsible for all of Israel’s security problems on several fronts, be it the Houthis, the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria or the West Bank.

Next, Hagari said that Samad-3 appeared to have attacked Israel from the west and across the Mediterranean.

With Iranian help

He also said Iran had helped the Houthis increase the range of the Samad-3, which is publicly stated to be around 1,500 kilometers.

Although there is no indication in the publicly available information about Samad-3 that the aircraft has special capabilities to evade Israeli radar, Hagari acknowledged that Israeli air defense detection systems failed in this case, but did not explain the exact reason for this.

Hagari thanked the United States for shooting down most of the dozens of drones that Yemen has used against Israel during the current war, while praising Israeli aircraft and air defense systems for shooting down dozens more drones, mostly aimed at Eilat.

He reiterated an Israeli military statement linking the drone attack to another drone attack that attempted to target Israel from the eastern border, but that drone was shot down.

Defense systems should be strengthened

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned in comments to Hebrew media that Israel would “settle accounts” with anyone who threatened it, following an assessment of the situation in the wake of the overnight drone attack on Tel Aviv.

Gallant said Israel’s security forces were working to strengthen their defense systems and would focus their intelligence operations on those responsible for the attack.

The Houthis had previously claimed responsibility for the attack on Friday morning.
