Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Francis Ford Coppola, Arturo Sandoval on the 2024 Kennedy Center Honors list

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES — The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced its next award winners on Thursday.

Long-running American rock band Grateful Dead is one of five recipients being honored for their artistic lifetime achievements. The Kennedy Center says the band has been a social and cultural phenomenon since 1965, with a fan culture like no other.

Also being honored is Bonnie Raitt, another great in music. She says she knows the ceremony will be one of the highlights of her life. The Kennedy Center says Raitt has continued to make us love her with the different genres of music she has tried over the years.

The Kennedy Center will also honor Oscar-winning director and filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, jazz trumpeter, pianist and composer Arturo Sandoval, and the iconic Apollo Theater in New York City.

The ceremony raises money for the Kennedy Center while honoring artists who have played a key role in the development of American culture. The annual event is scheduled for Sunday, December 8.
