Wizards vs Rockets final score: Washington loses to Houston, 109-91

The Washington Wizards faced a Summer League powerhouse, the Houston Rockets, on Sunday, who featured last season’s SL MVP Cam Whitmore. The good guys lost 109-91 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Wizards were outplayed in the first half, getting outrebounded 30-15 in the first two quarters. The 10 turnovers didn’t help either, as Washington trailed 59-44 at the break.

Justin Champagnie led the way at halftime with 12 points on 5/8 shooting. Jules Bernard added 9 points.

Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George helped the Wizards come back in the third quarter. The two rookies each hit a pair of triples in the third quarter as Washington went on a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to 81-72 after three.

But the Rockets put the game away in the fourth quarter. Alex Sarr was manhandled by Rockets veteran center Orlando Robinson, who scored 12 straight points for Houston in the final quarter. Robinson had 22 points and 15 rebounds, while tying Sarr for the lead.

Sarr finished with eight points and four rebounds on 4-of-14 shooting and 0-of-5 from three-point range. He settled for way too many shots and didn’t seem very interested in attacking the basket. Sarr’s small frame was evident as he got pushed around quite often.

Carrington and George combined for 32 points and seven triples. George showed his potential as an ideal 3-and-D player. He needed only six field goal attempts to reach 14 points.

Carrington forced his shot at times, making 5 of 16 shots. But he showed a good feel for the playmaking role when he was on the court and had a team-best five assists.

Any signs of life from Johnny Davis? The third-year point guard scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds on 5/8 shooting.

The Wizards play again Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
