40-year-old man sexually abuses 6-month-old baby in Vizianagaram, arrested

Vizianagaram: In a horrific incident, a six-month-old girl was sexually assaulted in Ramabhadrapuram in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. The tragedy took place on Saturday.

The accused, who is also said to be a distant relative of the child’s mother, came to her house while the mother went to a nearby department store with her ten-year-old daughter to buy groceries.

Some time later, the mother heard her baby crying loudly. She asked her daughter to check on the little girl. The daughter raised the alarm when she found the bleeding baby in the hands of the accused. When the mother and the villagers tried to catch the accused, he fled the scene and placed the baby in the cradle.

The police launched a manhunt and nabbed him on Sunday morning. Addressing a press conference, Bobbili DSP Srinivasa Rao said, “The accused, identified as Erukanna Dora, has been arrested and booked under Section 65(2) of the BNS and Sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act (Whoever rapes a woman below the age of twelve years shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than twenty years but which may extend to life imprisonment).”

The police seized the accused’s blood-stained cradle and stained clothes and sent them to a forensic laboratory for further examination.

The baby is now being treated in a hospital. The child’s condition is stable, police said.
