City and county officials release information on incidents at River Drive and water park

Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter released details of a July 3 incident on River Drive North.

Slaughter said 85-year-old Theodore Frank Evanila was driving west on River Drive North when he suddenly slammed on his brakes in the middle of the road and lost consciousness.

As a result, the vehicle behind him struck the rear of his own car at a speed of less than 10 miles per hour, pushing him off the road and into the ditch, Slaughter’s July 10 press release said.

Nurses happened to be driving by and stopped to help, Slaughter said.

They found Evanila unconscious and out of breath in the driver’s seat. They pulled him out and performed CPR, but it was unsuccessful, according to Slaughter.

The county coroner stated that the cause of death was natural causes resulting from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

City officials released an update this afternoon on a July incident at Electric City Water Park.

According to the press release, a child was involved in a medical incident at the swimming pool at around 4:46 p.m.

Rescue workers provided first aid on site and took her to the hospital for further medical treatment.

“At this time, the city is unable to provide or confirm any reports on their condition,” a press release said. “The incident is currently under investigation.”

An online fundraiser for the child says she was sliding down the water slide when another child landed on her, holding her underwater. She was later flown by helicopter to Logan Health in Kalispell.

This story will be updated as more information about the swimming pool incident becomes available.
